Karen, I personally (as a parent) think is fine. My Bella has been complaining about school lately and I ask her why and she tells me because she can't "play". She only attends 3 hours a day and really it is only a 2 hour work period but I think that here your daughter is learning and playing and enjoying herself. Why not?

I also think it's alright. Playing with it in other contests make children love montessorimaterial more and more and it's not only seen as something "for learning" and "not for playing". Learning and playing, especially for young children, should go hand in hand, be ONE thing... But I think it's important also to treat materials with respect, not make them dirty etc. I think Cinderella and Kitty know that ;)

That is a good point Sybille. I do not let my kids disrespect the materials just like anything else they have.
